Becca Arnold is an Associate Professor of Economics at San Diego Mesa Community College, where she has been teaching since 2004. Previously Becca worked for the Delaware Center for Economic Education, assisting high schools participating in stock market simulations. She also founded Economics For Everyone, an educational consulting firm that assisted K-12 teachers and students with economic education projects and Programs. In addition to her background in education, Becca has over 10 years of statistical research in areas as diverse as transportation, energy usage and tourism.
Gifford Asimos currently serves as a teacher and School-to-Career Coordinator at Helix Charter High School in San Diego, teaching AP Economics, Economics and Virtual Enterprise. He serves on the Economics Education Foundation of San Diego Board of Directors as a Teacher Representative and Treasurer. He was named Helix Charter High School Teacher of the Year in 2003-2004 and recently won the Key to Change Publishing Pathways to Excellence Award. Giff completed his undergraduate studies in Business Economics at Colorado College. He received his Business Education teaching credential from the University of Colorado at Denver and his M.B.A. from National University.
Nina Dixon currently serves as a 4th/5th grade GATE teacher at Robert E. Lee Elementary School in San Diego. She has been teaching in the San Diego Unified School District for 7 years. Additionally, she serves on the board of the San Diego Center for Economic Education. Nina completed her undergraduate studies in Political Science at San Diego State University. She received her Multiple Subject teaching credential from SDSU as well, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology. Nina resides in San Diego with her husband Bernard.
Kim Gibbs currently serves as an adjunct Economics professor at Cuyamaca College. She has a strong background in conducting teacher workshops in various topics/subject areas to include economics and financial literacy. She completed her undergraduate studies in Elementary Education at the University of Northern Iowa and obtained her Master of Arts degree in Economic Education and Entrepreneurship from the University of Delaware.
Charles F. Gorder, Sr., was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on November 9, 1925. He attended public schools in Aberdeen and in Oakes, North Dakota. After one year at North Dakota State, Chuck entered the Naval Academy graduating June 6, 1947. During his active duty, the Navy sent Chuck to law school from which he graduated in 1955 and became what is now known as a Navy Jag Officer. He retired from the Navy in 1967, moved to San Diego, and has been practicing law in San Diego ever since. Chuck was a founding member of the Board of Econ-Ed and was its first president. He has served on the Board continuously since 1976. He is also active in the UCSD Cancer Center Foundation and the First United Methodist Church Foundation.
Julian Kearns is an adjunct economics professor at San Diego Mesa College. Julian has a strong academic background in economics, graduating summa cum laude from UCLA in 2003 with a BA degree in business economics, and later matriculating to SDSU where he earned a graduate degree in economics in 2009.
Bernard Mauricia is the Program Manager of the California Council on Economic Education. He provides workshop/conference administration by working with History/Social Science Coordinators throughout the state to promote economic and financial education programs and recruit teachers. He also oversees all program implementation within schools and teacher in-services, while working with centers for economic education throughout the state on outreach programs to local teachers. Prior to taking his position with the CCEE, Mr. Mauricia worked with Lazard Venture Advisors researching a broad range of private equity transactions, including investments in portfolio companies, consolidation of complementary technology platforms, and strategic repositioning of privately funded assets. Bernard received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1999 where he majored in Spanish and Biology. Bernard resides in San Diego with his wife Nina.
Laurie Mosier serves as the K-12 History-Social Science Coordinator for the San Diego County Office of Education. She provides service and leadership locally and statewide in the area of history. Through her coordination with community and district stakeholders she provides teacher training, student academic programming, and curriculum resources to support student achievement and learning in the areas of history, geography, civics, and economics.
A longtime resident of San Diego, Patrick Pierson graduated from San Diego State University in 1968 with highest honors in English and history. He was a classroom teacher for the San Diego Unified School District for 34 years, and was named district Middle School Teacher of the Year in 1994. In 1999, he was selected by the California State University system as one of 22 outstanding teachers, representing SDSU, and honored with proclamations from both houses of the state legislature. A state Mentor Teacher for three terms, Pat frequently presented at California League of Middle Schools, California Council for the Social Studies, and Language Arts and Reading conferences. During his many years in the classroom, Mr. Pierson has served as a practitioner and a promoter of educational initiatives such as service learning and the Junior model United Nations program. Pat continues to share his expertise with new teachers while serving as a staff developer for AVID and specializes in training teachers to use the Socratic method in all content areas
Richard Strauss, served as a teacher, mentor teacher, County Teacher of the Year, site administrator, Resource Coordinator for Economics and Civics, representative to both the Law-Related Education Initiative in Juvenile Justice Settings, and the SDSU project for implementing economic education while at the San Diego County Office of Education. His career included home and abroad research and positions in colleges, universities, media, and federal service. Other professional organization involvement included representation, leadership roles, and conference coordination for the Council for the Social Studies.
Rohn S. Trieglaff, CLU, AIF® owns and operates a boutique fiduciary employee benefit consulting business. He specializes in company retirement and group insurance plans. He has been a volunteer board member of the Economic Education Foundation of San Diego (EconEd) for the past nineteen years and is currently the presiding President. Rohn is also a board member of California Council on Economic Education (CCEE) and the San Diego Center for Economic Education (SDCEE). Rohn was the 2008 recipient of CCEE’s Adam’s Apple Award.
Anthony Zambelli, J.D. has been an instructor in the Business and Professional Studies Department at Cuyamaca College since 1979. He is a recipient of the Cuyamaca College President’s Award, the Award for Teaching Excellence and the Rainbow Award for service to the college community. He also received the Alfred Lord Whitehead Award for Teaching Excellence at the University of Redlands.
Dr. Zambelli received a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1972, and in Economics in 1974 at California State University, Stanislaus. He received his Master of Arts degree in Economics from Fresno State University in 1976 and a Juris Doctorate from National University in 1990. He has received a number of academic honors including the American Jurisprudence Award for Legal Scholarship and the West Publishing Award of Outstanding Legal Scholastic Achievement. He was a California State Scholar, a Congressional Intern, and attended the Institute for Comparative Economic and Political Systems at Georgetown University and the Institute on Entrepreneurial Education at Pepperdine University..
Dr. Zambelli is a member of the Spring Valley Kiwanis where he has been Kiwanian of the Year and served as President.
